कॉम (MoneyMail.com)।

10 Make Money Online Scams

You Need to Be Wary of

DevRaj80
29-12-2014, 04:52 PM
The internet is a boon, but at the same time it can be a very scary place. There are spammers and cheaters lurking behind every corner!

The internet was way different when I started out in 2006. Facebook and Twitter were not there (they were just starting out); Yahoo, Google, Orkut, MySpace and MSN were the big names then… I actually believed that the ads on Google and these other sites were placed directly by them and were genuine. How naive I was!

DevRaj80
29-12-2014, 04:53 PM
I joined one scheme that promised quick riches with very little work. I was so excited and dreamed of a carefree life with lots of money!!! I didn’t hear from them after that! I used to check my email every now and then, expecting their reply in my inbox. But nothing! After two weeks of absolute silence, I tried to contact them using their support email. That email bounced back… Ahh! I knew then, that I had been cheated.

You might think that by know I would have learnt my lesson and tried to be extra cautious the next time. Sadly, that was not the case.

Scammers Prey on Your Insecurities

Do you know why many people still fall for them? It is the way they present the content; whether it is via email or their website. They highlight our shortcomings, regrets, dreams and make their offer sound enticing… “Yes, this is THE one that will help you get where you want to be real quick“!

We are all emotional beings and we make 60-70% (it won’t be wrong if I say 90%) of our decisions based on emotions. We emotionally connect with people who empathize with our struggles, insecurities and weaknesses. The spammers use this psychological trigger to get us to act on their offer.

Remember All that Looks ‘Green’ is Not Green!

Have you heard of the singing sirens that tempted Ulysses and his men in the epic poem Odyssey, by Homer? I love travel tales; I first heard this story from my father when I was small. These singing sirens are actually predators who lure people to come near them. Once these poor fellows reach there, these creatures show their true colors!

Many money making schemes are like that – they lure people with their tempting offers. Only after spending a great deal of time, effort and money, will you realize that this is not going to work as they had promised. By then, you are already deep into it and if you are like me, you will try harder and spend more time and money to make it work. Finally after months of toil and no results; you stop. But now, you are more in debt than when you started!!!

10 Scams You Should Be Wary of

1. Earn Money by Taking Online Surveys

2. Make Money Typing at Home (Data Entry Jobs)

“Work from home as a data entry operator. Type information into online forms for online companies. Earn an unlimited income every 2 weeks.”

Do the words above look familiar? You might have seen various versions of this ad online and sometimes offline too! They make it sound all so easy… you just need to fill up online forms and they will pay you $10-$20 for each filled form. Fill up 30 forms a week, that’s $300 plus weekly. {Here is one I found during my research for this article: http://hmbt1976.webspawner.com/} It all sounds good… BUT you need to make a one time payment, just to receive the training materials!

Some sell “Typing Jobs Data Base” so that you can have access to 10,000+ job offers. Oh, their promises never end. In most cases, once you make the payment, that’s the last you will ever hear from them.

3. Scam Affiliate Programs

It was way back in 2007 that I saw an ad from a company named Affiliate Junktion. Those who were in the internet marketing field then might remember seeing these ads. They had a very elaborate system that looked so genuine.

Affiliate Junktion scam

You can join them for free but to become eligible for receiving payment you need to sign up for a hosting account with iPower using their affiliate link. This amount ($75) along with $25 bonus will be credited after they approve your account. Then, they will create a mini website for you at iPower with their programs details and your own affiliate link promoting them. For each free sign up from that link, they promised to pay $2. It looked very promising. I thought, “I’ve finally found a legitimate opportunity!”

I fell into their trap and joined them. I got my account approved and $100 was credited to my account in their website. I started promoting them – through paid ads, forums, buying bulk leads, etc. I started getting sign ups and my account balance grew close to $350. I continued with my ads but I was getting fewer approved sign ups. I don’t remember the actual threshold for requesting withdrawal, but it sure was high and I hadn’t reached it yet. Then a few weeks later, they changed the software that they use for tracking their affiliate program. They said my balance will be carried forward. But when I accessed that system using my credentials, what I saw was a BLANK account – absolutely nothing!! I tried to contact them, but they never replied to my support tickets. So the cost of the hosting, advertising and all the effort I had put in went down the drain.

So please be careful about such affiliate programs that promise you riches – they will only use you to pave their way to riches.

4. Email Chains

I’m sure you must have received an email that sounded like this…

TURN $6.00 into $60,000… READ THIS TO FIND OUT HOW!!!!!! READING THIS COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!!

And in the email, the sender explains the lucrative opportunity and you are asked to send $6 (or close to that) to the first person in the list given in that email. Sometimes they will request you to make the payment by mail and at other times via PayPal. Then you need to add your name to the bottom of the list and forward the email to as many people as you can. They say that after a while you will be amazed at the huge amounts that will be credited to your account!

The truth is that the list of names in the list is manipulated to keep the top name (that of the scam creator or his friends) on top permanently. Pyramid type chain letter schemes are illegal in most countries. So, if you receive such an email please do not respond, unless you want to risk being charged with internet fraud.

5. Get Paid to Click or Surf Ads

Pay Per Click advertising is a genuine way to advertise your products using Google AdWords or other similar services. Here, the advertiser or the company owner pays a service for the clicks their ad gets. There are other sites, however (called Paid to Click sites) that pay users to click on the ads they’ve placed on their websites. If you register with them, you will be clicking the ads (for which they will get a commission), but you may not receive a payment at all.

If you do get paid, these sites may offer you only about 0.01 cents per click, and you’ll get only about 10 ads per day. This means you will be earning a grand total of 1 cent per day! If you want to get a better payout or more ads to click on, you will be asked to pay more for a premium account – yet another way for them to siphon your money.

So, if you come across an opportunity to make money just clicking on online advertisements, it is probably a scam.

6. Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) Pyramid Schemes

According to Wikipedia,

Multi-level marketing (MLM) is a marketing strategy in which the sales force is compensated not only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of the other salespeople that they recruit.

While not all MLMs are illegal, some pyramid schemes with inferior or make-believe products are. They exploit you by making you buy their product, market it on their behalf and recruit more sales personnel (downline) for them. In order to get started, you might have to buy a large volume and in some cases you’ll end up just sitting on it. Those MLMs that are illegal will focus more on recruiting rather than selling. If you get scammed and end up dragging your friends also into it, it could dampen your real-life friendships.

7. Turnkey Money Making Systems

You might have seen images online such as the one below:

Google pays me - scam

Turnkey money making systems promise huge profits by following a turnkey solution provided by them. You will be required to purchase a website package and you need to promote that package and get people to sign up for it. It is a disguised version of an MLM program where the website package is the product you need to sell.

These scammers take advantage of your desperation to make money without spending much time and effort. If it had been real, everyone in the world would have become rich with no effort. There is absolutely no easy method to make money that gives you instant results with no effort. The only person who makes a profit will be the one selling the turnkey system.

8. Online Lotteries

You might have received emails or text messages congratulating you for winning a huge lottery you did not enter. You will be asked to send an initial amount so they can process your prize. They might even use the names of legal lotteries so it appears authentic when you search for it. The fact is that you cannot win a lottery or competition you have not even entered in the first place.

These emails or text messages will urge you act quickly and pay a fee to release your winnings. They might claim that the fee is for taxes and courier charges. Some might even ask for your bank account details so the prize can be sent directly to your account. They will misuse your identity and steal any amount you may have in your bank account as well. So, please don’t reply to such emails or phone calls.

29-12-2014, 05:03 PM
9. Pay for Work at Home Job Listings

When I was starting out, I used to search online for work at home opportunities. The search sometimes led me to sites that promised to give me a list of work at home job openings if I paid a registration fee. There are still some websites doing the same, trying to exploit people who are searching for genuine job opportunities online. Somehow, I never joined any of those schemes!

Legitimate employers do not charge a fee to hire you. If it’s a genuine opportunity, you will be paid and not the other way around. You shouldn’t have to pay for work-at-home directories or online job listings. The website promoting those lists is actually trying to get your money for free information that is available online. You can just do your own research online and find the same opportunities for free.

DevRaj80
29-12-2014, 05:03 PM
10. Google AdSense Scams

The Google AdSense program is a publisher platform that allows Google to place ads on your website and shares the revenue with you. It can be a profitable source of income for bloggers and website owners. But there are scammers out there who promise to give you AdSense ready websites/programs that you can just plug in and start making money using Adsense. While the content may be there, it won’t be unique as they will be selling the same to others like you.

Unfortunately, these sites will receive little traffic or ranking from search engines. With no traffic, your ads never get clicked. Google AdSense can bring you money only if you create unique content and promote it in a genuine manner, following the Google guidelines.
