In the Java programming language, a method signature for an object is the method name and the number and type of its parameters. Return types are not considered to be a part of the method signature.

doSomething(int x) and doSomething(String x) are distinct method signatures.

int doSomething(int x) and String doSomething(int y) are not distinct method signatures. They will be treated by a compiler as identical method declarations
