अमोल पालेकर हिन्दी फ़िल्मों के एक प्रसिद्ध अभिनेता हैं। ऐक्टर बनने से पहले अमोल पालेकर थिएटर जगत में निर्देशक के रूप में स्थाई पहचान बना चुके थे। नामचीन निर्देशक सत्यदेव दुबे के साथ उन्होंने मराठी थिएटर में कई नए प्रयोग किए। बाद में 1972 में उन्होंने अपना थिएटर ग्रुप अनिकेत शुरू किया। वे ऐक्टिंग में आने से पहले थिएटर में निर्देशक के रूप में अपनी पहचान बना चुके थे। बासु चटर्जी, ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी और बासु भट्टाचार्य उनके नाटक देखने आया करते थे। 1971 में सत्यदेव दुबे की मराठी फिल्म शांतता कोर्ट चालू आहे से अमोल ऐक्टिंग में आए। यह मराठी सिनेमा की उल्लेखनीय फिल्म कही जाती है। हिंदी फिल्मों में उन्होंने सन 1974 में बासु चटर्जी की फिल्म रजनीगंधा से कदम रखा। फिल्म सफल हुई और फिर उनके अनवरत सफर का आगाज हो गया। उन्होंने ऐक्टर के रूप में चितचोर, घरौंदा, मेरी बीवी की शादी, बातों-बातों में, गोलमाल, नरम-गरम, श्रीमान-श्रीमती जैसी कई यादगार फिल्में दीं। वे ज्यादातर फिल्मों में मध्यवर्गीय समाज के नायक का प्रतिनिधित्व करते दिखे। उनकी हास्य फिल्मों को दर्शक आज भी याद करते हैं।उन्हें खुशी है कि वे अपने करियर में फिल्म इंडस्ट्री के श्रेष्ठ निर्देशक और श्रेष्ठ तकनीशियनों के साथ काम कर सके। सन 1981 में मराठी फिल्म आक्रित से अमोल ने फिल्म निर्देशन में कदम रखा। अब तक वे कुल दस हिंदी-मराठी फिल्मों का निर्देशन कर चुके हैं। उनकी पिछली हिंदी फिल्म पहेली को ऑस्कर पुरस्कार के लिए नामांकित किया गया था जिस पर खुशी व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने निर्देशक के रूप में मनमाफिक फिल्में बनाई। बहुत जल्द फिल्म दुमकटा रिलीज होगी। उनकी यह फिल्म बासु दा और ऋषिकेष मुखर्जी को समर्पित होगी।

Golmaal (1979)

Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma (Amol Palekar) is looking for a better paying job. He and his sister Ratna (Manju Singh) have no relatives or acquaintances except Dr. Kedar (David). Dr.Kedar tells him about Bhavani Shankar's (Utpal Dutt) firm. Shankar is a weird man. He is a man of traditional values, hence he naturally hates youth wearing modern clothes. He is a sports fan, but thinks lowly of youth knowing anything about sports. But his most weird trait is hatred towards men without moustaches. He thinks that men without moustache's are characterless.
Ramprasad has a moustache, so Bhavani's hatred is no problem to him. He takes care of other problems by wearing kurta & feigning ignorance about sports. Bhavani hires him immediately. Ram is a hardworking guy, so Bhavani (& Ram) have no problems. However, Ram once takes leave by pretending that his mother (who died many years ago) has taken ill, and goes to watch a hockey match. Bhavani Shankar, who also attended the match, sees him there.

The next day Bhavani summons Ramprasad to his office and asks him about the football match. Remembering the plot of a movie a friend of his is shooting, Ram convinces Bhavani Shankar that he had seen his "moustache-less" identical twin Lucky (alias Lakshmanprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma) at the stadium.

Amol Palekar (as Ram Prasad)Bhavani Shankar buys his argument & feels bad about accusing him and decides to make amends by hiring Lucky to teach his daughter Urmila (Bindiya Goswami) music. Ramprasad reluctantly shaves his moustache to become Lucky and starts to teach music to Urmila. He is helped by his actor friend Deven Verma (playing himself).
Now Urmila aka Urmi is the exact opposite of her father. She takes immediate liking to Lucky, while Ram is barely noticed by her. Bhavani notices this & gives Ram another job to tutor on the pretext of her exams. Meanwhile, Mrs. Srivastav (Dina Pathak), a socialite, is roped to play the part of Ram, "Lakshman" & Ratna's mother. Like Ram, she also ends up playing her own twin in front of Bhavani.

Ram decides to tell Urmila the truth. Urmila tells him to tell the truth to Bhavani as well. Ram goes to Bhavani to tell the truth, but Bhavani sees Ram's moustache giving away. Bhavani exposes Ram, but ends up thinking that Lucky murdered Ram & impersonated him to marry Urmila.
In a hilarious chase that follows, Bhavani ends up totalling a police jeep. The Senior Inspector (Om Prakash) mistakes him for a thug named Pascal D'Costa & is about to lock him up in the jail. Only when his Inspector identifies Bhavani Shankar by his real identity is he freed. By now, a harried Bhavani has developed hatred for twin as well.

On coming home, he finds that Urmila & Lucky are married. He refuses to give them blessings, until Dr.Kedar comes to the scene & explains the whole situation. Now, Bhavani becomes even more furious, but on everybody's insistence, relents. The film ends with a family photo of Mrs.Srivastav, Ratna, Urmila, Ram, Dr.Kedar, Bhavani's sister Kalindi (Shubha Khote) & Bhavani (who is shown without moustache).

Arun (Amol Palekar) is a shy accountant in Bombay who dreams of romancing Prabha (Vidya Sinha), but never gets past following her around without managing to actually speak up. While Arun twiddles his thumbs, suave Nagesh (Asrani) steps into the picture and turns on the heat, prompting Arun to take "love coaching" from "romance specialist" Julius Nagendranath (Ashok Kumar) to win Prabha back. One of the funniest Hindi films of the 70s - is a nostalgic favourite for its quirky take on pre-hypercongestion Bombay. The film established Amol Palekar as having an uncommon comic talent for playing mousy characters, a role he would repeat several times in his career.

When the misunderstanding about Vinod's identity is cleared, it seems that he may have to lose Geeta for no fault of his. This Basu Chatterji film boasts of a sterling performance by Master Rajoo and an excellent music score by Ravindra Jain, which contains soulful songs like 'Gori Tera Gaon', 'Jab Deep Jale Aana', 'Tu Jo Mere Sur Mein' and 'Aaj Se Pehle'.

Naram Garam is a 1981 Bollywood film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The movie was produced by Subhash Gupta and Uday Narayan Singh and had music by R.D.Burman. It reprises many actors and actresses from the 1979 hit Gol Maal with the same names. It was also directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and starred Amol Palekar in the lead.

Bombay-based Anil Agarwal (Amol Palekar) lives a very wealthy lifestyle along with his wife, Anju (Zarina Wahab), and a school-going son named Jimmy. One day while at the beach a stranger named Vijay Sohni (Vijayendra), rescues Jimmy from drowning. Anil and Anju are grateful and invite him to live in their palatial house indefinitely, which he accepts. Anil's garage owner friend, Daver (Kader Khan), cautions him against Vijay, as he has been seen making advances towards Daver's wife, Suman. Anil decides to ask Vijay to leave, but when Daver bursts in accusing Vijay of having an affair with Suman, an argument ensues, and in rage Anil takes out his revolver and shoots Vijay dead. Then a letter is received in Vijay's name from a man named Ashok Saxena, demanding that he repay his loan of one lakh rupees immediately. Anil travels to Puna, finds out where Ashok lives, and pays him the amount. Thereafter, Anil starts receiving phone calls from a man named Chaman who claims that he knows everything about Vijay's disappearance. As if things were not complicated enough, another male knocks on the Anil's door one day, identifies himself as Ashok Saxena. Anil now realizes that he cannot trust anyone, and feels that he has been dragged into a web of deceit and lies. Will Anil be able to break free of this deception?
