Parents all over India warn their children to beware of strangers, guard their daughters virginity, then suddenly they do just what they have warned their daughters NOT to do...make them have sex with a stranger.
The difference is in their minds..and societies..is that stranger isnt a rapist but her husband!
So, what is sex with consent in India?
If girls/boys/men women are married to people who are strangers that they barely know properly by just a few meetings/phone calls...often with others present too...The decision to have sex is not made by the two individuals concerned, but by their parents.
This means sex with a stranger is accepted.
So what if after marriage they dont want to have sex?
They are forced to consumate the marriage while the inlaws await the news of a pregnancy...so how can the girl refuse?
She would be made to feel guilty if she didnt want sex or wanted to run from her husband as her parents are relying on her to make it work, apart from the fact they may have invested money in it too.
If she just does not want to sleep with her husband, who will listen to her cries?
There is no one as the people she would naturally run too...are the ones that put her in this situation!
What would be classed as rape in other societies is classed as normal in India.
A woman should have the ultimate say over whom she will give her body too willingly.
All the time women give consent to their parents over their own bodies, they are at the mercy of the man their parents have matched them with.
So...is society..and your very own parents encouraging rapes to take place, right under their noses with approval?
This dosent just happen in poor villages, educated people who are highly intelligent are also waiting right now for their parents to do just the same...out of "respect".
