birds of a feather (बर्ड्स ऑफ़ ए फ़ेदर) यानी एक ही प्रकार के लोग. एक कहावत में इसका प्रयोग इस प्रकार हुआ है. Birds of a feather flock together.

eat like a bird (ईट लाइक ए बर्ड) यानी बहुत कम खाना, बस चुगना या सूंघना. She is on heavy diet these days. But she always ate like a bird and hardly talked during the meal.

kill two birds with one stone (किल टू बर्ड्स विथ वन स्टोन) यानी एक साथ दो काम कर लेना, एक तीर से दो निशाना लगाना या शिकार करना वग़ैरह. इसका अच्छा ख़ासा प्रयोग होता है कि लोग लगे हाथ दूसरा काम भी कर लेते हैं. I killed two birds with one stone as I went to take the train ticket I visited my friends shop in that area.

A little bird told me (so) (ए लिट्ल बर्ड टोल्ड मी) जब हम किसी को कुछ बताते हैं लेकिन अगर पूछा जाता है कि हमें कैसे मालूम हुआ तो हम कह देते हैं काले चोर ने बताया. उसी तरह अंग्रेज़ी में कहते हैं हमें नन्हीं चिड़िया ने बताया. “So who told you she is engaged?” “Oh, let’s just say a little bird told me so.”

for the birds (फ़ॉर द बर्ड्स) बहुत ही मामूली, जैसे हम अपने पेड़ों पर एक आध फल चिड़ियों के लिए छोड़ दें या फिर अपने छत की मुंडेर पर दाना पानी रख दें, काम चाहे महान हो उस चीज़ का मुल्य नहीं होता और हम कह देते हैं अरे चिड़ियों के लिए है. यह इसी आधार पर बना है और अर्थ है जिसका कोई महत्व न हो, मूर्खता भरा जैसे —“What do you think of the new arrangement?” “I think it’s for the birds — it won’t work.”
