In USA, when you buy food from a fast food joint, if the lady at the counter asks "For here or to go?" it means she is asking whether you will eat it here or if you will take it away to eat it elsewhere (in which case they will pack it up)

In Bangalore, when you order idlies or dosas to be taken away you say idli parcel, or dosa parcel.

In Bangalore, you can order a "By Two" coffee or tea.
It means they will serve just one cup of coffee and give you another empty cup to enable you to share your coffee with another. It is not considered proper to pour half the contents into the saucer like they do in Mumbai.

Similarly, you can order a "2 by 3 coffee", ie two cups of coffee to be shared by three persons.

No, Bangaloreans are not kanjoos. They don't do this because they want to save money. They like to have coffee several times in a day but they take smaller quantities each time.

If you see a display sign "No by two service" it means this restaurant is slightly upmarket and will not allow this practice. Some display the sign "No fractional service"
