 Paonta Sahib ( ਪਾਂਉਟਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ) is a small beautiful town in the south of Sirmour district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is an important religious spot for Sikhs and a bustling industrial town. Major industries are cement (Cement Corporation Of India (CCI), Rajban), pharmaceuticals (Ranbaxy Pvt ltd,mankind pharma ltd), textiles (Malwa cotton and spinning mills of Oswal group) ,chemicals & food(Mushroom Factory). Surrounded by a Sal forest and on the banks of river Yamuna, the historic town of Paonta Sahib (398 m) was founded by the tenth Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh. When only 16 years old, the Guru left Anandpur Sahib and on the invitation of Raja Maidini Prakash of Sirmour, lived at this beautiful spot for over four years. The historic gurudwara commemorates his stay and interestingly the waters of the Yamuna fall silent below this - which happened at the Guru's behest. The word 'Paonta' means 'Space for a foot hold'. Paonta Sahib Sightseeing • Gurudwara Paonta Sahib :- The gurudwara displays a marvelous architectural excellence. It was originally Guru Gobind Singh's residence. • Museum : - The weapons owned by Guru Gobind Singh have been preserved in this museum. • Memorial of Rishi Kalpi : - This memorial has been constructed in the memory of Rishi Kalpi. • Sahstra Dhara : - The rivers Yamuna and Tong meets here. There is an Ashokan Rock Edict here. • Kafota : - Known to be a good picnic spot with favorable climate. Major Industries Due to Incentives provided by state and central government for development of Industries, as per Industrial Policy, many new factories are coming up in this region.
