Birla Institute of Technology and Science

The institute was established in its present form in 1964, with a vision of realising Jawaharlal Nehru's project of nation-building and an emphasis on "science, technology and modernization". During this period, the institute's transformation from a regional engineering college to a national university was backed by G.D. Birla. Massachusetts Institute of Technology provided the technical assistance required by the change.
