कोलकाता नाइटराइडर्स ने किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब को आईपीएल-7 के फाइनल मुकाबले में तीन विकेट से हराकर खिताब अपने नाम कर लिया। मैन ऑफ द मैच चुने गए मनीष पांडे और यूसुफ पठान (36) की तूफानी पारियों की बदौलत मैच में एक वक्*त नाइटराइडर्स की जीत बहुत आसान लग रही थी, लेकिन इन दोनों के आउट होने के बाद हालात कुछ मुश्किल हो गए। अंतिम 18 गेंदों पर नाइटराइडर्स को 21 रनों की दरकार थी और सूर्यकुमार यादव और पीयूष चावला विकेट पर थे।
कोलकाता चैंपियन्स बनने के साथ साथ मालामाल भी हो गई है। ट्रॉफी के साथ-साथ उसे 15 करोड़ रुपए भी मिले। मैच खत्*म होने के बाद केकेआर के मालिक शाहरुख खान की खुशी देखने लायक थी। वह पंजाब की जर्सी पहनकर डांस करने लगे। जॉनसन भी नहीं रोक सके चावला का तूफान मुश्किल हालात में कोलकाता की जीत के हीरो चावला बने। अक्षर पटेल ने जब 18वां ओवर फेंका तो उसमें 6 रन बने। इसके बाद अंतिम 12 गेंदों पर 15 रनों की जरूरत थी। 19वां ओवर करने मिचेल जॉनसन आए। जॉनसन ने दूसरी ही गेंद पर यादव को मनन वोहरा के हाथों कैच कराकर अपनी टीम को सफलता दिलाई और कोलकाता पर दबाव कायम कर दिया। इसके बाद सुनील नारायण (नाबाद 2) विकेट पर आए। जॉनसन ने अगली दो गेंदों पर दो रन दिए लेकिन छठे गेंद पर चावला ने छक्का लगाकर नाइटराइडर्स की जीत पक्की कर दी।
