Food for Healing
Nutritional healing form a major part of Ayurveda treatment and food is thus divided into three major categories. Sattva is formed of milk, milk products and plants which have a mild flavoring effect. The Raja is the hot and spicy category of food and includes meat and non-vegetarian stuffs. The fast foods which can be termed as "denaturalised" form part of the Tamas. Food turns out to be beneficial when it is in accordance with the individual's doshic constitution. In Vata person, food that is cooked, oily, heavy and warm are recommended. Raw veggies marinated with salad dressing is allowed. But refined sugar, yeast, vegetables of cabbage and potato family are to be avoided according to ayurveda diet. The Pitta people should follow a vegetarian diet and should avoid 'spicy and acidic food to a great extent. excessive oil, salt and alcohol is not recommended for anyone. The Kapha energy invites more fresh and raw vegetables and fruits. Spicy foods also help stimulate metabolism. But nuts, starch, sweets, cream, meat, dairy products and citrus fruits are to be avoided along with excessive sweet sour and salty foods. |

Re: Food for Healing
Dozens of studies reveal that ginger (1/4 teaspoon of powdered, 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of minced gingerroot, or a cup of ginger tea) can ease nausea from motion sickness and pregnancy, says Gerbstadt. Researchers are unsure which oils and compounds in ginger suppress nausea, but it’s safe and has none of the side effects (dry mouth, drowsiness) of OTC meds.
