Very interesting.
They have a shortage of names, it appears
Unlike India.
I wonder if a study can reveal any particular name as "most popular" in India.
During our time, we South Indians were nearly always given God's Names.
Vishwanathan, Shankaran, Laxminarayanan, Narayanan, Hariharan, ShivaShankaran, Muralidharan, Damodaran, Gopalan, Govindan, Subramanian, Shrinivasan. Narayanaswamy, Gopalakrishnan, Natarajan, Anantharaman, Padmanbhan, Venkateshan, Venkataraman, Raman, Krishnan, Ganapathy, Ganeshan, Sheshadri, etc etc.
Nowadays, short North Indian or pan Indian names are favoured.
For women too, names of Goddesses, like Lakshmi, Parvati, Saraswati, Durga, Uma, Seetadevi, Bhagirathy, Radha, etc have given place to modern simple and short two syllable names.
But I wonder if a single name can be pin pointed as most popular.
