This was not too difficult.

I have seen this film sometimes in the early seventies soon after my engineering graduation while doing Post Graduation at Roorkee University.

I faintly recall that it was an Amitabh Bachan/Hema Malini movie but could not immediate recall the movie name.

I did remember it had something to do with a Bank Robbery.
I considered "haath ki safai" but soon did some searching after using the fact that the two characters in this still picture are clearly identifiable as Madan Puri and Prem Chopra.

The rest was not too difficult.

Answer "Gehri Chaal".

Thanks to Abhi for confirming that the face is that of Pooja Bhatt.

That made it easier for me and gave me a starting point to search.
There are not too many films of hers to reasearch.
She usually acts in her Father Mahesh Bhatt's films.
A quick check on her list of films and eliminating by common sense the improbable answers, and the list of films that I have already seen revealed that Tadipaar is a strong possibility. I have not seen this film.

Just watch the first minute of this video and you will find Pooja Bhat's face looking exactly the way it looks in this post. The purple bindi is the clincher.

I can now confidently say the film is Tadipaar.

By the way, what does the name "Tadipaar" mean? How do you spell it in Hindi? (तडीपार?) I could not find this word in my dictionary.

मेरे विचार से जब किसी व्यक्ति को इस आशंका में कि उसके शहर में रहने से कानून और व्यवस्था की स्थिति बिगड़ सकती है तो उस व्यक्ति को शहर छोड़ने और अगले आदेश तक शहर में वापिस न आने की हिदायत दी जाती है उस व्यक्ति को 'तड़ीपार' कहा जाता है.
